1,000 Households Across 15 Constituencies: SINDA Expands Ground Outreach Through Mega Door-Knocking Effort

The large-scale outreach strengthens and sustains support for families in need through early engagement and coordinated efforts across the community.

  1. 24 May 2026 – SINDA conducted its first-ever Mega Door-Knocking Exercise (Mega DKE) that reached out to approximately 1,000 households across 15 constituencies. Marking SINDA’s largest DKE to date, the initiative significantly expanded outreach efforts to engage families facing greater socio-economic challenges, and provide them with assistance and support to overcome their challenges.

  1. Referred to SINDA by social service agencies, these households reside in 1- to 3-room HDB flats and fall within the national Per Capita Income (PCI) benchmark of $1,000. These households are also within SINDA’s PCI criteria of $1,600, highlighting the importance of early support and coordinated intervention.

  1. This Mega DKE also builds on the momentum of the Indian Engagement and Development Initiative (INEI) by MCCY, which strengthens community-wide partnerships and coordination to increase support for the Singaporean Indian community.

  1. Close to 500 individuals supported the Mega DKE, including door-knocking volunteers, representatives from the Indian Activity Executive Committees (IAECs) under the People’s Association’s Narpani Pearavai, and SINDA staff. Together, they formed a coordinated community-wide outreach effort.

  1. Mr Anbarasu Rajendran, CEO, SINDA, shared, “The Mega DKE allowed us to engage families directly, better understand their circumstances, and connect them to timely assistance. We have seen that with the right encouragement and support, families can overcome challenges and make meaningful progress. Through this collective community effort, we hope to reach more families and strengthen their pathways towards stability and growth.”

  1. First piloted in 2016, SINDA’s DKEs identify and engage Indian residents at their doorsteps. Over the past 10 years, more than 75 DKEs have been conducted islandwide, serving as a critical frontline touchpoint between SINDA and the community.

  1. Families identified through the Mega DKE will be progressively supported through SINDA’s programmes and services such as:
    • Financial Assistance Schemes – targeted support to help ease financial pressures and strengthen stability.
    • Family Support Schemes – counselling and targeted intervention programmes that strengthen family well-being.
    • Student and Youth Development – fully subsidised, structured academic guidance and mentorship programmes to equip youth with the skills and confidence needed to support their aspirations.

  1. This comprehensive support extends beyond long-term programmes and services to include immediate assistance for families. In partnership with FairPrice Foundation, families received goodie bags containing essential household items such as beverages, canned food, biscuits and daily necessities. An informational flyer on SINDA Programmes and government assistance was also distributed to raise awareness of available support.

  1. Jean Khong, General Manager, FairPrice Foundation, said, “Meaningful collaboration is the cornerstone of FPF’s approach to supporting communities in need. Like-minded partners such as SINDA empower us to deliver on our mission of keeping nutritious daily essentials within reach for all in Singapore, especially the vulnerable among us.”

  1. The outreach was made possible through the strong involvement of community partners and organisations. International Management and Sports School (IMSC) assisted in the packing of the goodie bags while SY Logistics Pte Ltd and Team Godstar were logistics partners who facilitated bag drops to the designated locations on the day of the exercise. Their contributions strengthened SINDA’s ability to engage families more meaningfully, while reinforcing a shared commitment to ensuring timely assistance for those in need.

  1. Youth volunteering played a key role in this Mega DKE, highlighting the contribution of young people in supporting community outreach efforts.

  1. “The experience was truly eye-opening as it allowed me to meet residents from different backgrounds and better understand the challenges some families quietly face every day. Being able to play even a small part in connecting residents to support was very meaningful for me, and it has inspired me to continue giving back to the community” shared Kaliyaperumal Diwakaran, 20, a youth DKE volunteer.

  1. Ensuring volunteers were well-prepared for the exercise, SINDA conducted training sessions, equipping them with the necessary skills to interact with residents effectively and sensitively.

  1. Palaniappan Rukmani, 58, shared, “Even though I regularly volunteer for DKEs, the training was still meaningful as it reminded me of the importance of approaching every resident with sensitivity and understanding. Personally, what stood out the most about the Mega DKE was the scale of the effort and seeing everyone come together for one shared purpose of reaching out to families and ensuring that support reaches those who need it. It showed me how powerful community ground-up efforts can be in making a real difference in people’s lives.”

  1. As SINDA marks a decade of outreach through DKEs, the Mega DKE reflects its continued commitment to strengthening community support systems and deepening connections with families across Singapore. Through sustained partnerships and collective action, SINDA benefits an average of 30,000 households annually, advancing its broader vision of a more inclusive and resilient community where every family can achieve stability and long-term progress.
